"Something More Important Than Success" (1 Corinthians 4:1-2)

1 Corinthians 4:1-2

This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

Intro

Looking back on the past year, how would you evaluate yourself? When you do that, are you measuring by results? We tend to measure everything by results—whether we could do it or not, or whether we reached our goal or not. Of course, at the beginning of the year, I think it is important to set goals. However, we must not forget this: there is something more important than results.

Faithfulness

Bible and Background In the church in Corinth, heresies had entered, and there were people setting others against Paul. Factions were forming. Paul says, "It is not people who judge me; it is God." I believe this idea applies not only to the apostles but to all Christians. First, we are "stewards" (managers). This life has been entrusted to us. How will we use it? We need to use it wisely. And what is required of a steward is to be faithful.

It is not about "achieving more results" or "excelling compared to others," but about continuing to serve faithfully. God evaluates faithfulness.

The 5 Talents and the 2 Talents The parable of the talents in the Gospel of Matthew is famous. It’s a story about how we use what has been entrusted to us. One servant received 5 talents and gained 5 more; another received 2 talents and gained 2 more. The master said: "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!" The gains were different. The results were different. But the evaluation given to both was the same. What was evaluated was not the amount, nor how they compared to others, but their faithfulness.

God Values the Process

Abraham, the Exodus, and the Christian Life God is someone who values the process. For example, consider Abraham’s life. You might think it would have been better if God had just taken him to the Promised Land in an instant, skipping all the trouble. But that’s not what happened. He wasn't even told where he was going. Moreover, except for a tiny piece of land, nothing became his own. If you look at the "results" in terms of land, it might have been very little. But God evaluated that process. Isn't that why Abraham is called the father of faith?

The Exodus is the same. If they had gone straight, they could have arrived in a month, but it took 40 years. What God values is the process.

The Christian life is the same. We are saved and go to heaven. Since the result is the same, some might think it would be better if we could go there immediately. However, in God's eyes, the process is important. What God evaluates is the process and faithfulness. I think this is a great comfort.

A Missionary Friend I have a friend who works mainly for refugees in Europe. Lately, he seems tired. He can't see the results. You all might experience something like that too. You are praying. You are working hard. It’s painful. You might blame yourself. But what matters is the process—whether you are faithful or not.

"Be faithful, even to the point of death" The Book of Revelation says this. What God is looking at is not how you compare to others. It’s not about becoming like someone else. It’s about continuing to walk faithfully in the life given to each of us—some carrying weakness, some carrying illness, some carrying handicaps.

Continuing to Be Faithful

Momentary Zeal vs. Consistent Zeal It is easy to be faithful for just a moment. There are many people who are "on fire" only for a short time. Coming to service two weeks in a row is easy. Anyone can pray only when they are feeling inspired. Serving only when you are being evaluated or when you are being watched is easy. Only when things are going well, people say, "I value God." Anyone can say that.

Worship, Prayer, and Continuing to Walk with God What is difficult is to consistently continue worshiping, continue praying, and continue serving, whether in good times or bad times. Not someone who worships only when they are in a good mood, but someone who values worship for years and decades. Someone who continues to pray constantly. Someone who continues to love and serve in good times and bad, even when results aren't visible. This is the real thing. I want to be that way.

This year, I want to walk faithfully before God. Even if it’s not something that others envy, and even if it’s not evaluated by people, I want to be someone who is evaluated by God. I want to walk faithfully. And I want to be one who is told, "Well done."

Because Jesus Loves Us Consistently

Finally, as I always say, being able to do that is not by our own effort. It is by the grace of Christ. Doing something consistently is difficult. Even loving a husband or wife consistently is this difficult. We will make mistakes. But please do not forget: Jesus loves me consistently, in good times and bad. The love of the Cross is being poured out on me unchangingly in this year 2026 as well.

Responding to that love, we continue to walk with Him. We are made into those who continue to look at Him.

忠心（忠實）

5千銀子與2千銀子 馬太福音中關於「按才幹受責任」的比喻非常有名。 那是關於如何使用被委託之物的故事。 一個僕人領了5千銀子，又賺了5千；另一個僕人領了2千銀子，又賺了2千。 主人說：『好，你這又良善又忠心的僕人，你在不多的事上有忠心，我要把許多事派你管理；可以進來享受你主人的快樂。』 賺得的數額不同，成果不同。但兩個人得到的評價是完全一樣的。被評價的不是金額，也不是與他人相比如何，而是忠心。

神重視過程

基督徒的人生也是如此。得救後去天堂。既然結果是一樣的，有人可能會想，要是能馬上就去就好了。然而，在神的眼中，過程是重要的。神所評價的是過程，是忠心。我認為這是一個極大的安慰。

宣教士朋友 我有一位主要在歐洲為難民工作的朋友。 最近他似乎很疲憊。看不到成果。 大家可能也會有那樣的時刻。明明在禱告，明明在努力，卻很痛苦。 有時可能會責怪自己。但重要的是過程，是是否忠心。

『你務要至死忠心』 啟示錄這樣說。神所看的不是與他人相比如何，也不是要你變得像某個人。神看的是在賜給每個人的人生中，有的人帶著軟弱，有的人帶著疾病，有的人帶著缺陷，卻依然忠心地持續前行。

持續忠心

一時的熱心 vs 一貫的熱心 僅在一段時間內保持忠心是容易的。有很多人只是一時火熱。 連續兩週來參加崇拜是容易的。只在火熱時禱告是誰都能做到的。只在被評價時、被看著時才服事是容易的。 只在順利的時候說「我很重視神」，誰都能說。

崇拜、禱告、持續與神同行 難的是無論好時或壞時，都能一貫地持續崇拜、持續禱告、持續服事。 不是那種只在心情好時才崇拜的人，而是多年、數十年如一日地重視崇拜的人。是能持續不斷禱告的人。是在好時壞時、甚至有時看不見成果時，依然持續愛、持續服事的人。這才是真實的。希望我們能成為那樣的人。

這一年，我想在神面前忠心地行走。即使不是什麼讓人羨慕的事，即使不被世人評價，也希望能成為被神評價的人。我想忠心地行走。並且希望能成為被主說「做得好」的人。

因為耶穌一貫地愛著我們

最後，我常說，能做到那點並非靠著我們的努力，而是靠著基督的恩典。要一貫地做某件事是很難的。甚至要一貫地愛丈夫或妻子，都是如此困難。我們也會有失敗的時候。但請不要忘記： 耶穌是一貫的，無論好時壞時都愛著我。 十字架的愛在 2026 年也同樣不變地傾注在我身上。

回應那份愛，與這一位同行。願我們能成為定睛於這一位的人。

願大家蒙受祝福。

Intro

Sa pagbabalik-tanaw sa nakalipas na taon, subukan nating suriin ang ating sarili. Sa oras na iyon, sinusukat mo ba ito sa pamamagitan ng resulta? Dahil si Hesus ay Patuloy na Nagmamahal sa Atin

Sa huli, gaya ng lagi kong sinasabi, ang paggawa niyan ay hindi sa pamamagitan ng ating sariling pagsisikap. Ito ay sa pamamagitan ng biyaya ni Kristo. Mahirap ang gumawa ng isang bagay nang patuloy. Kahit ang pagmamahal sa asawa nang patuloy ay napakahirap. May mga pagkakataong mabibigo tayo. Pero huwag ninyong kalilimutan: Si Hesus ay patuloy na nagmamahal sa akin, sa mabuti man o masamang panahon. Ang pag-ibig sa Krus ay patuloy na ibinibuhos sa akin sa taong 2026 na ito nang walang pagbabago.

Bilang tugon sa pag-ibig na iyon, patuloy tayong lumakad kasama Siya. Hayaan nating maging mga tao tayo na patuloy na nakatingin sa Kanya.
