English Translation: "Today's Me Connected to Eternity"
Confession of Faith "I believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen."
Introduction It has become warmer, and butterflies are flying. It is spring. A butterfly is not born in that shape. It goes from egg to caterpillar to butterfly. They look like completely different things, but there is "continuity" there. They have different forms, but they are the same being. Just as you are the same person whether you are dressed up or in your pajamas. Today's theme is continuity. I believe there is a huge difference between living with an awareness of this continuity and not. There is a phrase I have repeated throughout this series: What you believe determines how you live. I will speak with the title "Today's Me Connected to Eternity."
Point 1: Christ's Resurrection and Me
Confession We are studying the Apostles' Creed together. The next time will be the last. Let us confess together again today. I want to focus on this part today: "I believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen."
Past, Present, and Future The Apostles' Creed is well-balanced because it deals with our past, present, and future. For example: "He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven." These are events that happened in the past. We believe that they actually took place. And phrases like "He sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty," or what we learned recently about "believing in the holy catholic church" and "believing in the communion of saints," refer to the present. And it also speaks of the future. For example, that Jesus will return. And today's part: "I believe in the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen." These are not unrelated; there is continuity.
Resurrection of the Body Just as there is continuity between the early church and our church, there is continuity between Jesus' life and our faith. How Jesus lived and how He died is relevant to us. And so is the resurrection of the body. The Bible says something interesting about the resurrection: 1 Corinthians 15:20: "But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." 1 Corinthians 15:21: "For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead." Next week is Easter, the day we commemorate that Jesus rose again. But Jesus is the beginning. We will also become like that. The event of Easter—the resurrection of Christ—is not an isolated event but a guarantee of our resurrection that follows. What kind of body will it be? The Bible does not say much. But there are things we do know: 1 John 3:2: "Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is." We do not know exactly what it will be like. Someone seeing a caterpillar for the first time could never imagine what it will become. However, the Bible teaches that in the future, on the last day, this world will be made new. And it says we will also be made new. 1 Corinthians 15:51: "Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed," 1 Corinthians 15:52: "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed." Imperishable? You might think, "Is that possible?" It might be similar to LEDs. People in the past could never have imagined light bulbs. Even after Edison invented the light bulb, it was something that eventually burned out. Now, they don't burn out.
Let's organize this: When we die, our souls go to heaven. But that's not all. On the last day, when Jesus returns and this world is made new, our bodies will also be made new. They will be resurrected. And that is different from this earthly body. It will become imperishable. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. Making the world new means it will become the form that God originally desired. When God first created the world, there was no death or sickness. It means becoming the world and the people that God originally intended. Also, let's think about Jesus. Was the body of the resurrected Jesus completely different from when He was alive? It wasn't. But there were differences. For example, the resurrected Jesus appeared suddenly or vanished unexpectedly. And Jesus was taken up to heaven in that body, and the Bible teaches the glorious, shining form of Jesus in heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:40: "There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another." There is a heavenly body. But it is not something completely separate; it is connected to the "you" of now. Why is that important?
Point 2: Eternity and Today At the beginning, I spoke about butterflies. They seem like different things, but there is continuity. In the same way, there is continuity between my life now and the eternal world—heaven. How I live this life now will affect the eternal world. It's not as if everything is reset regardless of how you lived. In the Gospel of Luke, there is this story. Jesus said: "A nobleman went into a far country... He called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas, and said to them, 'Engage in business until I come.'" That is one mina each. The first servant came forward and said, "Lord, your mina has made ten minas more." Luke 19:17: "And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'" And to the one who made five minas, He gave five cities. This parable refers to what we receive in heaven. Revelation 22:5: "And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever." The parable of the minas is about how what we receive in heaven differs based on how we use the small things entrusted to us. How much we receive and how much we are entrusted with is decided by how we lived this life. This is where the continuity between this life and eternity lies.
Understanding this is extremely important. Those who say, "I'll believe right before I die," or "Being a lukewarm Christian is fine as long as I get to heaven," can be said to lack this perspective. Salvation and reward are different. Theologically, it is critical not to confuse these two.
Salvation (Gift): It is given freely through the merits of Christ, unrelated to our works. This is common to everyone and is 100% grace.
Reward (Remuneration): This is the "evaluation" of how a Christian, after being saved, used what was given to serve the Lord. The Bible repeatedly states that God gives rewards according to each person's "work."
Point 3: Live Believing in Eternity It might be easier to think of it this way: a long rope. This small piece of tape stuck here is your life. How you live here is a matter connected to eternity. That's why I want to live well. I want to live the way God desires for me. Jesus said to store up treasures in heaven. That's easy to understand. Many people work hard to save money; let's do some "heavenly savings." How? I want to summarize it in two ways.
Serve There is a power given to you. Even if it is small, like in the parable of the minas, when we use what we are given, we store up treasures in heaven. That is why this church encourages serving. In many churches, only a few people do the ministry while others act like guests. Are you here to receive service? Or are you here to serve God and people? I think a church where 80% of people serve is wonderful. Don't you want to go to a church like that? You are the one who creates it.
Give Giving for God and for people. That is storing up treasures in heaven. Do you have that thought when you give an offering? Also, it is important to know the joy of giving. Especially from a young age, knowing the joy of sharing what you have. That enriches life. Not only that, it stores up treasures in heaven. Recently, an elementary school boy in America gave an offering of nearly 40,000 yen, saying, "I want this to be used for the work in Japan." For him, it was most, or perhaps all, of what he had. After praying and thinking, it was used as part of the cost to purchase drums. God will not forget his gift. If someone is encouraged or saved through the praise offered in this church, God will remember him. I believe he will certainly receive his reward in heaven.
Please live believing in the reward. Because that will be your strength. It's not only pastors who receive a reward. To the mother working hard unnoticed. To the person who, while fighting illness, does not forget to give love. To the person who prays for someone every day. There may be many difficult things, but to the person who tries to show God's glory even a little in their workplace—God has prepared a reward. This faith becomes the power for us to live well.
1 Corinthians 15:58: "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." O tema de hoje é continuidade. Acredito que há uma enorme diferença entre viver com a consciência dessa continuidade e não. Há uma frase que repeti ao longo desta série: O que você acredita determina como você vive. Falarei com o título "O Meu Eu de Hoje Conectado à Eternidade".
Ponto 1: A Ressurreição de Cristo e Eu
Confissão Estamos estudando o Credo Apostólico juntos. A próxima vez será a última. Vamos confessar juntos novamente hoje. Quero focar nesta parte hoje: "Creio na ressurreição do corpo e na vida eterna. Amém."
Passado, Presente e Futuro O Credo Apostólico é equilibrado porque trata do nosso passado, presente e futuro. Por exemplo: "Foi concebido pelo poder do Espírito Santo, nasceu da Virgem Maria, padeceu sob Pôncio Pilatos, foi crucificado, morto e sepultado; desceu à mansão dos mortos. Ressuscitou ao terceiro dia; subiu aos céus." Estes são eventos que aconteceram no passado. Acreditamos que eles realmente ocorreram. E frases como "Está sentado à direita de Deus Pai todo-poderoso", ou o que aprendemos recentemente sobre "crer na santa igreja católica" e "crer na comunhão dos santos", referem-se ao presente. Ressurreição do Corpo Assim como há continuidade entre a igreja primitiva e a nossa igreja, há continuidade entre a vida de Jesus e a nossa fé. Como Jesus viveu e como Ele morreu é relevante para nós. E a ressurreição do corpo também. A Bíblia diz algo interessante sobre a ressurreição: 1 Coríntios 15:20: "Mas, de fato, Cristo ressuscitou dentre os mortos, sendo ele as primícias dos que dormem." 1 Coríntios 15:21: "Visto que a morte veio por um homem, também por um homem veio a ressurreição dos mortos." A próxima semana é a Páscoa, o dia em que comemoramos que Jesus ressuscitou. Mas Jesus é o começo. Nós também nos tornaremos assim. Ponto 2: A Eternidade e o Hoje No início, falei sobre borboletas. Elas parecem coisas diferentes, mas há continuidade. Da mesma forma, há continuidade entre a minha vida agora e o mundo eterno — o céu. Como eu vivo esta vida agora afetará o mundo eterno. Não é como se tudo fosse "resetado", independentemente de como você viveu. No Evangelho de Lucas, há esta história. Jesus disse: "Certo homem nobre partiu para uma terra distante... Chamando dez dos seus servos, entregou-lhes dez minas e disse-lhes: 'Negociai até que eu volte'." Ou seja, uma mina para cada um. O primeiro servo apresentou-se e disse: "Senhor, a tua mina rendeu dez minas". Lucas 19:17: "Disse-lhe o senhor: 'Bem está, servo bom; porque no pouco foste fiel, sobre dez cidades terás autoridade'." E para aquele que rendeu cinco minas, Ele deu cinco cidades. Esta parábola refere-se ao que recebemos no céu. Apocalipse 22:5: "Ali não haverá mais noite, e não precisarão de luz de lâmpada nem de luz do sol, porque o Senhor Deus os iluminará; e reinarão pelos séculos dos séculos." A parábola das minas trata de como o que recebemos no céu difere com base em como usamos as pequenas coisas que nos foram confiadas. Entender isso é extremamente importante. Aqueles que dizem: "Vou acreditar logo antes de morrer" ou "Ser um cristão morno está bom, desde que eu chegue ao céu", pode-se dizer que carecem dessa perspectiva.
Salvação e recompensa são diferentes. Teologicamente, é fundamental não confundir as duas.
Salvação (Dom/Presente): É dada livremente através dos méritos de Cristo, independentemente das nossas obras. Isso é comum a todos e é 100% graça.
Recompensa (Remuneração): Esta é a "avaliação" de como um cristão, após ser salvo, usou o que lhe foi dado para servir ao Senhor. A Bíblia afirma repetidamente que Deus dá recompensas de acordo com a "obra" de cada pessoa.
Ponto 3: Viva Acreditando na Eternidade Pode ser mais fácil pensar desta forma: uma corda longa. Este pequeno pedaço de fita colado aqui é a sua vida. Como você vive aqui é uma questão conectada à eternidade. É por isso que quero viver bem. Quero viver da maneira que Deus deseja para mim. Jesus disse para acumular tesouros no céu. Isso é fácil de entender. Muitas pessoas trabalham duro para economizar dinheiro; vamos fazer uma "poupança celestial". Como? Quero resumir em duas formas.
Servir Existe um poder dado a você. Mesmo que seja pequeno, como na parábola das minas, quando usamos o que nos é dado, acumulamos tesouros no céu. É por isso que esta igreja encoraja o servir. Em muitas igrejas, apenas algumas pessoas fazem o ministério enquanto outras agem como convidadas. Você está aqui para receber serviço? Ou está aqui para servir a Deus e às pessoas? Acho que uma igreja onde 80% das pessoas servem é maravilhosa. Você não quer ir a uma igreja assim? É você quem a cria.
Dar Dar para Deus e para as pessoas. Isso é acumular tesouros no céu. Você tem esse pensamento quando entrega uma oferta? Além disso, é importante conhecer a alegria de dar. Especialmente desde jovem, conhecer a alegria de compartilhar o que se tem. Isso enriquece a vida. Não apenas isso, acumula tesouros no céu. Recentemente, um menino do ensino fundamental nos Estados Unidos entregou uma oferta de quase 40.000 ienes, dizendo: "Quero que isso seja usado para o trabalho no Japão". Para ele, era a maior parte, ou talvez tudo o que tinha. Após orar e pensar, o valor foi usado como parte do custo para a compra de uma bateria. Deus não esquecerá a sua oferta. Se alguém for encorajado ou salvo através do louvor oferecido nesta igreja, Deus se lembrará dele. Acredito que ele certamente receberá a sua recompensa no céu.
Por favor, viva acreditando na recompensa. Porque isso será a sua força. Não são apenas os pastores que recebem uma recompensa. À mãe que trabalha duro sem ser notada. À pessoa que, enquanto luta contra a doença, não esquece de dar amor. À pessoa que ora por alguém todos os dias. Pode haver muitas coisas difíceis, mas para a pessoa que tenta mostrar a glória de Deus, mesmo que um pouco, em seu local de trabalho — Deus preparou uma recompensa. Essa fé se torna o poder para vivermos bem.
